SKILL HIERARCHY
The knowledge content of SDT is apportioned into five levels as
depicted below. This is an adaptation of the "Training Factors"
pyramid advocated by Tudor Bompa, a leading sports scientist. The
"strategic & tactical" and "psychological"
levels in Bompa's hierarchy have been juxtaposed as in the Tactical
Approach, strategy and tactics drive all actions and the psychological
elements are a key part of the tactical actions undertaken in a
confrontation.

Adaptation of "Training Factors"
pyramid in Tudor Bompa's "Theory and Methodology of Training"
A capability in all levels must be built up over time. Each level
presumes a certain level of attainment in the previous level. Thus
for example, to properly execute a technique (Technical), presumes
a certain level of fitness and physical capability and so on. Whilst
all levels in the hierarchy from physical through to theoretical
are incorporated in training, the levels do correspond to the stages
of development of the student. It is important to appreciate this
hierarchy as the SDT material is structured around this, as is grading
assessment.
