Who We Are
The Principal Instructor and founder of SDT is Graham Kuerschner. Graham has over 50 years’ experience in the martial arts in a variety of systems and is internationally trained and graded (Israel, Hong Kong and Philippines). He has been a contributing editor to Blitz, Australia’s leading national martial art magazine since 2002 and has his own full page editorial in every issue.
Graham was the inaugral Director for Krav Maga Australia and New Zealand for 10 years and was instrumental in bringing Krav Maga through Eyal Yanilov to Australia in 1999. With Eyal, the head of KMG Krav Maga, he authored the KMG Krav Maga Instructor Manual for all Krav Maga instructors world-wide. He is presently Expert Level 2 in Krav Maga and holds instructor certifications in Krav Maga Law Enforcement, VIP Protection, Third Party Protection, Combat Instructor, Military Solo Operator, Womens and Kids Instruction and has trained as a member of the KMG Global Instructor Team on the first such course in Budapest Hungary.
Additionally Graham presently holds the ranks of 5th Level Instructor in Wing Chun, 5th Degree Black Belt in Doce Pares Eskrima (Filipino stick and knife fighting), 4th Degree Black Belt in Pangamot (Filipino Jiu Jitsu), and is a Senior Instructor in SDMS with Hoch Hockheim’s American Scientific Fighting Congress. Graham is also a blue belt of John Will’s Machado Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He is a qualified Fitness Leader and a Level 2 Coach under the Federal Government’s National Coaching Accreditation Scheme, a past State and National Judo Champion and has won titles in full contact kickboxing and stick fighting. Graham has also been a police expert witness in a number of Supreme Court cases in South Australia and New South Wales on the subject of violence against the person.
Graham was involved in assisting Robert Redenbach teach representatives from the specialist Army and NSW Police units that have responsibility for providing security during the Sydney 2000 Olympics. Robert is the creator of the P.A.T.S. (formerly ‘Kontact’) system for security personnel and was the defensive tactics instructor for the South African security services and President Mandela’s Executive Protection Unit.
Graham has a background of five years in the Army Reserve, a Bachelor’s degree and an Honours degree in Science from Adelaide University and a Masters degree in Business Management from Deakin University.
Paul has over 30 years martial arts experience and has also been internationally trained and graded. He presently holds the ranks of 2nd Level Wing Chun instructor, 4th Degree Black Belt in Doce Pares Eskrima and 3rd Degree Black Belt in Pangamot. Paul is also a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
To complement his martial arts experience, Paul has over 10 years’ experience in the security industry, principally working security on the doors of many major nightclubs as well as being a former police officer in SAPOL and so brings a wealth of real hands-on experience to the school.
Paul has a Bachelor’s degree and an Honours degree in Economics from Flinders University.
Tim has over 15 years experience in the martial arts, is a certified Krav Maga Instructor, a black belt in Freestyle karate, has spent 5 years training and competing in Judo and presently works in the security industry.
Russell is a certified Krav Maga Instructor and an assistant instructor in eskrima and grappling. He is a Captain in the Australian Regular Army.
Chris is has 10 years experience in Krav Maga and is a certified Krav Maga instructor.
Laurie has over 15 years experience in the martial arts with several years in security work, is a black belt in kickboxing, a certified Krav Maga Instructor and Krav Maga Third Party Protection Instructor.
Sid has over 7 years martial arts experience, is a certified Krav Maga Instructor, Krav Maga Woman’s and Children’s as well as a Krav Maga Third Party Protection Instructor.
Andrew has over 7 years martial arts experience, trains in Muay Thai as well as being a certified Krav Maga Instructor and Krav Maga Third Party Protection Instructor.
